Jorge Lorenzo’s lead at the top of the MotoGP World Championship extended to nine points after the Spaniard won the third round at Le Mans, his second victory of the season. Team-mate Valentino Rossi and Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso were the other podium-clinchers. The 2010 Monaco Grand Prix was yet another classic. Mark Webber led every lap of the race and took Red Bull to a 1-2 victory in the principality. As found normal at Monaco, the race was interrupted by four safety car periods after a series of crashes, but Webber stayed cool and re-built his lead every time. He survived a late scare, as two backmarkers collided right in front of him, which brought out the safety car. The race thus ended under the safety car. The starting grid did not …

The Bull kept charging, and this time it was Mark Webber ahead of his team-mate Sebastian Vettel as the Red Bulls finished in P1 and P3. Splitting the pair was the Ferrari man Fernando Alonso, much to the delight of the Spanish crowd, in what would be the first of his two home grands prix of the season. After the Japanese Grand Prix got postponed, it was a long break in the MotoGP calendar. The Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland spat smoke and ash for days, disrupted air traffic, and with it played havoc with the circus’ movement between Qatar and Japan.
