Here comes the Bug- VW New Beetle to be launched on December 4th
The classic ‘Bug’ of the yesteryears, the Beetle is going to be launched in India by VolksWagen India on December 4th.The Beetle had been reintroduced in the Western markets a decade ago and the sucess story has not been much different from what it got decades ago.A small peep at the history of the car will tell you that the Beetle was the longest running and most produced automobile of a single design. The Bug was introduced in 1938 (named as VW Type1 then) and it was not until 1967 that the Beetle name was made official for this extremely sucessful Bug.
The New Beetle was launched as a concept in 2004 and it has the most modern designs while also keeping the original Beetle’s rounded shape. After enjoying over 5 years of sucess in the Americas, the New Beetle is all set to be launched in the next biggest market-India.The New Beetle will come as completely build Units(CBUs) and hence the price will be on the higher side. The speculated price is between 15 to 20 lakhs. Now that is a really huge gamble taken by Volkswagen to enter the fray of the smaller car segment with such a price tag but the launch of the NEw Beetle is more of a stunt to improve the brand image of VolkWagen in the country.
The New Beetle is really a cute car. While keeping the original shape of the classic ‘Bug’, it has undergone some very refined and stylish changes from its original version.Take a look at the picture to see the main differences between the Old Beetle and the New Beetle
The New Beetle is powered by a 2500 cc engine providing a maximum output power of 150Bhp.These specifications are based on the model that has been launched in the Americas and Europe. VW have not yet confirmed whether the specs for the Indian markets will be any different. While the car itself gives you a feeling that we are going bacjk to the 1950s in the design, the safety and comfort features of the car is really upto the mark with the most recent cars from VolkWagen. The New Beetle features front and side airbags, ABS, EBD and all sort of other features for your safety.
The interior spacing might not be very great in the Bug.It can fit 4 passengers including the driver. The front wheel drive Beetle is based on the same engine that drives the Golf and the Jetta from the VW stables.
The New Beetle is no doubt one of the most eagerly awaited cars in India. Especially for all those who have grown tired of the conservative designs of today’s vehicles. Here is a brief specification data about the New Beetle from VolkWagen’s Official US site
