After the great success of the i10 and the great response to the i20 petrol variant,Hyundai will now launch the i20 Diesel in India.The Diesel variant of the i20 is expected to hit Indian markets in the latter half of 2009 and is currently being manufactured at Hyundai’s Chennai factory in India.

The i20 Diesel will have similar looks as that of its petrol sibling.The i20 petrol was powered by a 1.2 liter Kappa engine whereas The i20 is powered by a 1.4L CRDi engine,giving a power output of 89 bhp and torque of 220Nm.The i20 Diesel is also expected to be equipped with the turbo charger,which will also be there in the soon to be launched Fiat Bravo.Hopefully the i20 Diesel wont cost as much as the Fiat Bravo!!

Hyundai is also hoping to make a 1.6L variant of the i20 Diesel,which is expected to be intended for the European markets.The i20 is expected to give a fuel efficiency of 20kmpl.

The high end model of the i20 Diesel will have ABS and airbags.Also the i20 is expected to feature power steering and trip computer.In addition,the i20 Diesel will have Climate control AC,Cooled glove box,
leather gear knob,leather steering wheel and more.The i20 will also have body coloured mirrors,front bumpers and door handles.The car is also expected to feature 2DIN music system.

The i20 Diesel will however face some stiff competition from the Maruthi Suzuki Swift,Skoda Fabia,Tata Indigo and the newly launched Honda Jazz

If Hyundai is going for a competitive pricing for the i20 Diesel,the car should be a success like its petrol sibling.The i20 Diesel is expected to be priced between 5 to 6 lakhs.
