3 July 2009 No Comments Posted By:Vivek

Hyundai is all set to add the next “i-series” to the Indian markets. After the huge success of the i10 and i20,Hyundai is finally coming with the i30.The i30 was a roaring hit in other Asian countries and in Europe and Hyundai will be hoping to repeat the success here too.The i30 will be an addition to the C-Segment premium hatchback category.

The Hyundai i30 is by no means a small car.The i30 measures 4,245 mm long,1765 mm wide and 1,480 mm height. The wheelbase is 2,650 mm long, offering you with great interior spacing. The i30 is designed by the Hyundai European Team in Germany. The i30 shares its bodywork platform with the Kia Cee’d,a small family car from the Korean Car manufacturers Kia.

The petrol variant of the i30 will have a 1.4L,4 cylinder DOHC engine, delivering power of 108 bhp@6200 rpm and maximum torque of 137 bhp@5000 rpm.The i30 European version has the option of automatic gearbox in place of the manual 5 gear transmission. But the Indian customers may have to wait before they get their hands on automatic transmission on the i30.The i30 is also expected to have a diesel variant, but Hyundai may put hold the launch of the i30 diesel till they get a good verdict from the Indian market on its petrol variant. The Diesel engine may either be a 1.6L or 2.0L CRDi engine, which may also come with a 6 gear transmission. The fuel efficiency though is a bit disappointing as it gives only between 9-12 kms per liter. The rising petrol prices may provide some hiccups in the success of the i30 in India.

The i30 looks stylish and is really very spacious too.It will feature dual front, side and curtain airbags. The interior and exterior design and features is conformation of Hyundai’s technological advancements over the years. The longer wheelbase results in greater interior spacing and will allow 340 liters of luggage space.

The i30 have been vote the Car of the Year 2008 in Spain and Car of the year 2007 in Australia. The awesome response the i30 got in these countries proves that the Korean manufacturers are making inroads into the American and Japanese shares in the world markets also.

The i30 is also expected to feature 6 curtain airbags, active headrests and seat belt remainders. But these options may be available only with the high end models of the i30.The active safety features on the i30 also include a 4 channel ABS and ESP.Again, these may not come with the base version.

The i30 is a hatchback that gives good value for money. At least that’s what the Europeans and Australians felt about it.Hyundai themselves are claiming that the “i” stands for Inspiration,Intelligence and Integrity. The i30 is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2010.The price is expected to between 8 to 9 lakhs.Hyundai may even launch the i40 in India in the near future, but a lot will depend on how successful the i20 Diesel and the i30 will be India.Anyway, the i30 is indeed a car to watch out for. With the Mahindra-Renault Sandero hatchback also expected to be released in the first quarter of 2010,the i30 wont find the going easy, especially with the stiff competition already here.Still,Hyundai will be hoping that the i30 will repeat the awesome success that came with the i10 and the i20.
