i10-Electric from Hyundai stables

i10-electric.jpg HMIL announced the launch of new version its compact car i10, the electric. The official launch will happen at the New Delhi auto expo on Jan-5th-2010. Hyundai says i10-electric will be an all electric, eco-friendly, Zero-emission vehicle. Hyundai Motor India Ltd already has a big line-up of models to support its claim of promoting eco-friendly and non-polluting means of transportations. These include Santro LPG, i10 CNG, Accent CNG & LPG etc. So the new Hyundai i10 electric will re-confirm its commitment towards the eco-system. The car weighs 1000 Kgs, comes with Li-Polymer batteries which are 20% smaller in volume than the equivalent Lithium-ion batteries. The i10 electric is powered by a 49 KiloWatt electric motor with 210 nm of torque. The battery pack supplies 16 Kwh of electric power giving 160 kms of drive length before needing a recharge. The car can be recharged up to 85% of its full capacity with in 15 minutes if a 413V industrial charger is used and it will take around 5 hours on a normal 200V household supply. The car does a 0-100 sprint in 15 seconds while the top speed is expected to be 130 kmph. Hyundai hasn’t yet announced the pricing details, but it is expected to be announced during the official launch function at New Delhi auto expo.

      This is a nice move from Hyundai..Renault-Nissan will be unvealing their electric cars in the coming autoexpo as well. Tata has already announced a electric Indica to be launched in Norway this year end…

      Govt. MUST promote non polluting vehicles and offer subsidies on the same.
