Mahindra Xylo
The Xylo is an MUV(multi-utility vehicle) which Mahindra & Mahindra started rolling out of their factories from 13 January, 2009. Mahindra had spent about 550 crore on the research and development of the Xylo, and at that stage, the project was codenamed Ingenio. This MUV is Mahindra’s answer to the Toyota Innova and Chevrolet Tavera, the major players in the Indian market at the moment. The Xylo, thus falls in the C+ segment of the Indian automobile market, and is powered by the same engine used in the recently launched Bolero Storm CRDe. However, Mahindra has fine-tuned the engine to give more power.
The Xylo sports an aggressive look, with a chrome-finished radiator grille at the front. The sloping bonnet goes well with this front-grille. Other notable features are the twin-coloured rear view mirrors and wrap-around tail-lights. Higher versions also get body-coloured bumpers and integrated fog lamps. However, the exterior design of the Xylo is not good enough to give the designers at Toyota any panic. Mahindra have done a beter job inside the car. The most notable feature is that the doors are fitted with puddle lamps, giving passengers good visibility during night journeys – a very useful add-on indeed. Obvious from this is that Mahindra has given very close attention to detail. The passengers in the rear seats get separate A/c vents for themselves. The interiors are very roomy and the car can comfortably seat eight adults. Plus, the overall fit and finish inside the car is quite good.
The Xylo is available in four variants – E2, E4, E6 & E8. Thers is also an option of ABS in the E8 model. There are eight attractive colours – Fiery black, Toreador red, Java brown, Mint green, Lucky lilac, Gold shimmer, Rocky beige and Mist silver. It is also available is dual tone shades – Black with Silver & Mint green with Rocky Biege. Xylo has good safety features as well, such as Intellipark reverse assist System and the Digital Drive Assist System (DDAS). The competitive pricing of the Xylo ensures that it gives the Innova and Tavera a run for their money. Until the launch of Tata’s upcoming Indicruz Xover, Xylo can expect to set the sales-charts on fire.
