Nissan Micra-Threat to Maruti?
Maruti Suzuki has been dominating the small car market in India for all these years.Many other automobile manufacturers,most notably Hyundai has come up with really impressive cars to challenge the dominance of Maruti.Now Nissan also hopes to pose a serious challenge to Maruti in the Indian small car market and leading to their aspirations would be the launch of the Nissan Micra in India.
Nissan seems really out to make it big in here as the Nissan Micra would be manufactured in Chennai,which would mean that the Nissan Micra would pose a serious challenge to Maruti Suzuki in the coming years,as the prices are expected to be really competitive.The Chennai plant was built by Renault-Nissan Automotive India at a budget of Rs 4500 crores with a view of bring the Nissan Micra and the Nissan Murano to India by 2010.
The Nissan Micra which has already seen the roads of the UK and other European countries is expected to be launched in India by 2010.The car is also expected to be redesigned and re engineered to fit the taste of the Indian customers,which greater emphasis on fuel efficiency.
The Nissan Micra was an instant hit in the UK,with its easy handling and comfort.The light turning circle makes it easier to park,especially when it comes to parking in the cities.The car is also said be pretty impressive when it comes to performance and riding comfort.The car is pretty tall for a small car,which means that there will be loads of headroom.The spacious interiors provide greater legroom for both the front and rear seat passengers.
The hatchback is powered by a 1.4 L Petrol engine capable of delivering power upto 72 Bhp @ 5600rpm and maximum torque of 137 Nm @ 3200 rpm.The engine is also expected to be pretty fuel efficient giving upt0 15 kmpl per liter.Again,all these statistics are very much based on the UK models of the Nissan Micra.The Indian model may come with a lighter engine giving you better fuel efficiency.
Will the Nissan Micra also add to the already decreasing share of Maruti Suzuki in the small car?The car does promises a lot and is a sign of Nissan’s ambitious effort to finally come up with a popular car in India and a genuine threat to Maruti’s dominance in the small car market.
