Tata Indicruz to debut in Auto Expo 2010
Tata Motors are in no mood to play second fiddle to the foreign auto makers. With more and more foreign manufacturers coming to India, the Indian companies might seem to take a back seat but not Tata. After their innovative Nano followed by new models of the Indica and the Indigo(Manza), Tata is all set to launch a rival to the Toyota Innova-The Tata Indicruz. The Multi Purpose vehicle(MPV) segment has been ruled by Innova ever since it was launched in 2005. The comfort levels in the Innova was unmatched by any of its competitors and hence the Toyota Innova have reigned supreme in this segment. But Tata is in no mood to allow Toyota continue to dominate this segment and are planning to launch the Tata Indicruz in the Auto Expo 2010.
The Tata Indicruz Xover will be based on the Tata Safari platform and will come in a 2.2 litre Dicor Diesel engine. The car looks spacious and will have a seating capacity for seven passengers. The Indicruz is also expected to be equipped with a navigation systems(not sure why an Indian car should have that), ABS with EBD,airbags and interiors that are both classy and yet providing the comfort levels that could well match up to the Innova interiors. The exterior looks may not be the best but the car itself looks modern. .A large grille and a peeled back headlamp provides the Indicruz gives us an impression that Tata have continued designing all their cars based on the Indica design.
Three variants of the Indicruz will be launched- The Indicruz Xover Ex,Xover LX and the Xover GX.The prices are expected to be in the range of 6.5 to 8 lakhs. That should make it a good competitor to the Innova which is priced around 9 lakhs. But with Toyota all set to launch a younger sibling of the Innova-the Toyota Avanza, the Indicruz will have to compete real hard to make a mark in the MPV segment.Another car which could pose a threat to the Indicruz is the Mahindra Xylo. The spacious interiors and the contemperory looks are something that could make the Indicruz a very attaractive buy and if Tata can improve their service networks,We see a bright future for the Indicruz. So watch out Toyota. Detailed specs are yet to come out. We will keep you informed about it. Watch this space for updates.
