Volkswagen launches New Beetle and the Touareg
Volkswagen launched the New Beetle and the Volkswagen Touareg in India as promised on December 4th.The price of the New Beetle will be 20.45 lakhs and the Touareg at 51.85 lakhs(ex-showroom price New Delhi) .The high price tag of the New Beetle is because of the high import duty as the Beetle will be imported from Mexico as completely built units(CBUs).
The SUV Touareg had been available only on order,but the Toareg has also been launched along with the New Beetle.The Iconic Beetle has already 150 confirmed bookings. We had reported earlier that the Beetle will be powered by a 2500 cc engine.Well, the Indian version of the New Beetle will be powered by a 2000cc 4 cylinder petrol engine equipped with a 6 speed transmission.
The Touareg is Volkswagen’s answer to the higher priced SUVs from Mercedes X5 and Audi Q5.The Touareg will be powered by a powerful 3.0 Litre TDi engine capable of delivering power upto 225 Bhp and is characterised by its atheletic stance. ABS,8 airbaags,ESP etc make up the host of safety features available on this luxury SUV.The Touareg will have Dual zone climate controlled AC,a permanent all wheel drive system,a Multi-functional trip computer with compass and exterior temperature display and Remote power open, power close rear hatch among others.The interiors are spacy and are as nice as its Audi and the Mercedes counterparts.
In addition the features like Electric sliding roof,electric adjustable seats etc are also included in the Touareg. The Volkswagen Touareg will be available in Blue Metallic,Campenalla White,Grey,Silver Metallic and Black peral Effect colors.In all, the Touareg seems to be a worthy competitor to the Mercedes and Audi cars and along with the New Beetle, the Touareg should be able to help Volkswagen improve their brand image in the country before the Volkswagen UP! and the Volkswagen Golf are launched.
