Yamaha Factory Racing’s Ben Spies took the first victry of his premier class career, with the two Repsol Hondas of Casey Stoner and Andrea Dovizioso occupying the next two podium positions. Spies was on top form all weekend, as he just got edged out of pole position by Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team), and then rode a perfect race to pick-up the win. The second race of the 2011 MotoGP Championship, hosted at Jerez, was a real classic played out in treacherous track conditions. A number of riders went down, but Jorge Lorenzo(Fiat Yamaha) kept running in the top 3 throughout the race and inherited the race win when the other contenders crashed out of contention. Casey Stoner, Valentino Rossi, Marco Simoncelli and Ben Spies were the front-runners who got caught out in the slippery conditions. Casey Stoner won on his debut ride with Repsol Honda, and continued adding to his impressive record at Qatar. Stoner eventually finished 3.440s ahead of reigning World Champion Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory Racing), with Pedrosa third in another factory Honda. Pedrosa took the lead from the start of the race and then it was the reigning World Champion, Lorenzo, who took up the mantle as race leader. MotoGP World Standing 2010
Here’s a look at the final tally of points, at the end of the 2010 MotoGP World Championship. Valentino Rossi’s absense from a good number of races due to injury, Casey Stoner’s inability to find a good setup on his bike until very late into the season, and Dani Pedrosa’s inconsistency made the job very easy for Jorge Lorenzo to clinch the championship. However, the season did have it’s fair share of good racing. Next season, Rossi moved to Ducati, and Stoner moves to the Factory Honda …

With the inaugural Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix set to be held towards the end of 2011, MotoGP couldn’t be left too far behind. In the coming season, there will be two Indian teams participating in the 125cc category of the MotoGP World Championship. What’s more – we’ll even have an Indian rider on one of those bikes. One of the teams is backed by the Mahindra Group, and will be called Mahindra Racing. Their riders would be Danny Webb and Marcel Schrötter. The other team would be the WTR-Ten10 …
