W995-Entertainmet Unlimited

With Samsung coming all out to take over the high end mobile market,it was always expected that Sony Ericsson will come up with something really interesting to keep their prospects alive. Not contrary to expectations, the W995 was unveiled by SE,their flagship Walkman series phone with a 8.1 MP camera.

So what makes the W995 a worthy competitor to all those 8 MP camera phones unveiled by Samsung and Nokia?
The biggest asset is of course the 8.1 MP camera with auto focus, which will have smile and face detection an WQVGA recording at 30 frames per second.
It is 3G enabled and also has an in built GPS and also provides you good connectivity options in the form of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth(with A2DP).It also has an accelerometer sensor.

The sound quality should be great, with SE embedding two of Sony’s audio technologies-the Clear Stereo and Clear Bass and also stereo speakers. And to enhance your enjoyment of music, you will also get a 3.55mm Audio Jack. The screen is a 2.6 inch LCD.

But the software side of the phone is what caught my eye more than these great hardware features.
The MediaGO,the entertainment organizer wll allow you to transfer between devices connected through Wi-Fi by just dragging and dropping.SE says that MediaGo will convert the music and video quality files to the best possible quality to be viewed on the phone. It also allows you to subscribe to podcasts.
Another interesting organizer is the SenseMe,which was introduced in earlier phones from
SE.SenseMe creates play lists according to your mood.Personally,i am not a great fan of this technology, but still a good thing to have in your phone.
You can also stream videos from You Tube and other sites and also comes pre loaded with the Wayfinder Navigator(trial version) and a stereo FM radio.
In addition you will also get the usual PlayNow arena and the Walkman player found in other Walkman series phones.
May be a disadvantage of the W995 is that it does not come with a Xenon flash, something that SE had already introduced earlier and the lack of the lens cover.
The Sony Ericsson W995 is expected to hit the markets by mid June.

Price(expected):Rs.25,000($500)

I have used phones from most brands (Siemens, Nokia, SE,Motorola and Samsung) and I feel that SE (even their low cost phones) are the best. They are good looking, light weight. user friendly, have long battery lives, good sounds and very good quality pictures. Unfortunately for SE, Nokia captured the major market share in India in the 1990s and has not looked back since then. Indians feel that Nokia is the most user friendly phone, for some vague reason. I wonder why Siemens phones are not available in India. My first phone was a Siemens and it was a terrific phone.
