End of the Digi-cam era??

26 March 2009 1 comment Posted By:Vivek

A number of mobile phone manufacturers have started incorporating cameras of more than 5MP recently.
So does this spell the end of the Video cam era?
Here are some of the coolest handsets that have arrived recently..

Model Name : Pixon
Manufacturer :Samsung
Pixon is the latest addition to Samsung’s new 8MP series of Phones.

The Pixon

The Pixon

The Pixon comes with an 8MP camera with LED flash and a really cool touchscreen.
The 8.1 cm wide screen should provide users with a whole new multimedia experience.
The Pixon also has features such as Advanced Shake Reduction, Blink, Smile and Face detection,Panoramic shot, geotagging(tagging of the photos as to where it was shot)
It also has a cool new feature of “tilt-to scroll” for scrolling through the images.
Equipped with TV output for PAL and NTSC systems,GPS,3G,Music Player with 3D Surround.
Price:Rs 29000($580) approx

Model Name :i8510 INNOV8
Manufacturer :Samsung

Samsung INNOV8

Samsung INNOV8

Again an 8MP wonder,the INNOV8.

The camera has features such as auto-focus,Face,Smile,Blink detection, anti-shake.The INNOV8 comes eith an 2.8 inch display.
The INNOV8 comes with a whopping 32GB memory space(16GB internal).
Like the Pixon,INNOV8 also has features supporting 3G.
Price : Rs.46000($920)(way t0o high)
One wonders why this is so highly priced.

Comparing the INNOV8 with Pixon, the Pixon is the winner.
Priced much less than the INNOV8,the Pixon is certainly the better looking phone.

Both dissappoint when it comes to the flash.Having provided with an 8MP camera,Samsung could have provided a Xenon flash.

Model Name : C905 Cybershot
Manufacturer : Sony Erricson

C905 CyberShot

C905 CyberShot

Here is where the Samsung phones lose out to the cybershot.

The C905 also has features of 8MP camera with Face,Smile,Blink detection, but comes with Xenon flash.

The C905 has only a 160MB internal space and expandable to only 2GB,which disappoints. It has a 2.4 inch display,262k colors.

Like the Samsungs C905 also provides the 3G and EDGE facilities.
Price : Rs.31,000($620) approx

Model Name :KC910 Renoir
Manufacturer :LG

C910 Renior

KC910 Renior

Unlike the C905 and the Samsungs, the KC910 is not a slider headset but fully touch screen.
The KC910 comes with a 3 inch TFT display with 256k colors.KC910 also has an 8MP camera with auto-focus
and comes with a Xenon flash. It also has the GPS feature and hence supports geotagging.
It supports Wi-Fi,EDGE and 3G.Like the Pixon it also has the TV out facility. The music player with Dolby sound
is cool, so is the video, which has preloaded codec that supports Xvid and DivX video playback.
Price : Rs. 22,000($440) approx

Model Name : N86
Manufacturer : Nokia

Nokia N86

Nokia N86

The N86 is Nokia’s entrant to the “8MP market”.The N86 boasts of an 8MP camera with Carl Zeiss lens.
It also has a secondary camera for video calling. But inspite of all of this, the N86 loses out in the fact that it also provides only an LED flash(a dual LED).

Again like its competitors it supports 3G,EDGE,WLAN and also includes GPS(the cool Nokia maps should be great). The display is 2.6 inch with 16M colors.
The phone is of slider type and looks are Ok,but for the cheap looking key pad.

Price :Rs.24000($480) approx

Three2Tango winner: The KC910 Renoir
Coming soon is Idou, which would come with a whopping 12.1 MP Camera, from the Sony Erricsson stables.
We could expect it in the second half of 2009.
The war field is ready, so are the warriors. The war for the market should be fun to watch.
