MotoGP World Standing 2010
Here’s a look at the final tally of points, at the end of the 2010 MotoGP World Championship. Valentino Rossi’s absense from a good number of races due to injury, Casey Stoner’s inability to find a good setup on his bike until very late into the season, and Dani Pedrosa’s inconsistency made the job very easy for Jorge Lorenzo to clinch the championship. With the inaugural Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix set to be held towards the end of 2011, MotoGP couldn’t be left too far behind. In the coming season, there will be two Indian teams participating in the 125cc category of the MotoGP World Championship. What’s more – we’ll even have an Indian rider on one of those bikes. In the final race of the 2010 season, Lorenzo ended his title-winning year on a victorious note at Valencia. The MotoGP World Champion, who before this weekend had never won at the circuit in any of the three classes in which he had competed there, eventually crossed the finish line 4.576s clear of Casey Stoner, who was followed onto the podium by Valentino Rossi. Jorge Lorenzo won from pole position for the third year in succession at Estoril as he took victory at the bwin Grande Premio de Portugal on Sunday, finishing ahead of Valentino Rossi and Andrea Dovizioso. The 2010 MotoGP World Champion was very strong in his victory, as he passed Rossi on the 17th of 28 laps and then pulled away from him to eventually win by 8.629 seconds. Rossi also rode lonely to the checkered flag, as he was about 18 seconds clear of Dovizioso. But, the battle to watch …

Casey Stoner’s authority on his home Phillip Island track continued in style, as the Ducati rider won at the circuit for the fourth year in a row. Starting from pole position – his third of the season – the 25 year-old led the Iveco Australian Grand Prix from start to finish as he made it a third win of 2010 in front of a partisan crowd.
