Microsoft and Yahoo! agree on new Partnership

Microsoft and Yahoo! join hands finally. After much drama that happened earlier where Microsoft’s 47 billion dollar bid to acquire was rejected by the then Yahoo! CEO Yang and his subsequent removal from the post Microsoft,a deal has finally gone through. The ten year deal between Microsoft and Yahoo! is intended at taking on the dominance of Google when it comes to search engine and the online advertising market.

The ten year deal will allow Microsoft to showcase is new improved Bing to a larger audience.Under the new agreement, the two parties will share each others technology to take on Google.Google
The Bing will now power the Yahoo! Search while Yahoo! will provide the sales force it needs through advertisements. The deal will hence help both companies by increasing revenue and reducing the costs. The deal may also take the share of Bing among the search engines close to 30%.As such,it is still really far off from Google’s 65%+ share in the market(The figures are that of the US alone.Worldwide,Google’s share is more than 75%).

The deal will help Yahoo!,which has been struggling to keep up with Google and Bing off late.Yahoo
Under the new agreement,Yahoo! will receive 88% of the search ad sales, which is really good news for its sliding profits and allows Microsoft to take a massive swipe at Google. The deal is done for now. However the new innovations are expected by 2012 only.As such, experts are saying that the end user will get nothing new out of this deal as a difference could be hardly noticed.
Will this be the much needed boost Microsoft needs to take on Google? Only time will tell!!
