Microsoft Bing.com…All new ‘Decision Engine’
After so much speculations that Microsoft will acquire majority stake in Yahoo and that Yahoo will be the Microsoft’s next search engine,Microsoft will launch its next search engine on June 3rd 2009.
The new search engine which was called the Kumo in the development phase ,will be launched under a new name ‘Bing’.Bing,as Microsoft says will provide a whole new experience in searching.Microsoft says that it is designed to build on the benefits of the existing search engines, while giving more facilities for the user to make better decisions.
The statistics indicate that the number of websites created every second is more than 4.(thats unbelievable!!).So,all those websites and people may not end up with what they went looking for.In fact, statistics show that more than 30% people are left unsatisfied by the search result.Microsoft is trying to tell us that the Bing will be a search engine that will catch up with the ever increasing information on the net and the users’ needs.
The Bing is infact not even going to be called a search engine by Microsoft. It will be a ‘decision engine’.It should provide you with intuitive tools to make smarter and faster decisions when dealing with this information overload. The Bing will be focussed initially in 4 key vertical areas-purchasing decisions, travel.local businesses and health. In fact it will come optimized for these key customer scenarios.
Some of the new features available will be Sentiment Extraction.which will help you in shopping online,by getting user opinions and reviews on the product you are shopping for. In Bing travel, you will have the Rate Key which compares the location, price and amenities of multiple hotels and giving you a color coded key of the best values and the Price Predictor which allows travelers to decide when to buy an airline ticket in order to get the lowest prices. In addition, the Cashback program with more than 850 merchants and 17 million products will be fully integrated into the Bing.
All these these features and more will be available to the net user on June 3rd. We will have to wait until then to find out how innovative the ‘decision engine’ will be. Is this the end of Google’s domination? Well, i remain skeptical about this. After all its the makers of live search who are making Bing. But it will be unfair to get into a conclusion before using this and hence we are eagerly waiting for its launch,so will be net users around the world.Whether to Bing or not will be decided by the ever increasing net users.
