While Alt + Tab is the very familiar shortcut for switching between different windows, the shortcut key to switch between tabs in Firefox web browser is  “Ctrl + Tab” . This keyboard shortcut has been tested on various platforms: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Apple Mac, Linux Ubuntu.This is tested for different versions of Firefox also: Firefox2, Firefox3.
Microsoft Internet Explorer-7 (IE7) also accepts the same shortcut for switching between tabs.
A few other shortcuts which might come handy when you are extremely concentrated in your key board so that you can’t move your hands to the mouse which is just  inches away.

F1 (Function Key 1)- Help
F2(Function Key 2)- Will rename an object.
Ctrl + Esc – START will pop up.
Alt + F4(Function Key 4) – Quit a program.
Ctrl+F4(Function Key 4) – Will close the current window in a multiple window program like IE7,firefox2,3.
Windows Logo + L – Locks the computer directly.
Windows Logo + R – Will get you the RUN dialog box.
Windows Logo + M – Will minimize all open windows.
Shift + Windows Logo + M – Will undo all minimize operations.
Windows Logo + E – Opens a new windows explorer.
Windows Logo + Tab – Cycles through the various taskbar buttons.
F10(Function Key 10) – Will activate the menu bar.
Ctrl+Shift+Esc – Opens the task manager.
Alt + Down Arrow – Will open a dropdown list,when the control is on that.
