It was again an all Yamaha showdown at Brno, as Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorezo battled-out for supremacy. Eventually, Valentino Rossi managed to open up a 50 point advantage in the MotoGP World Championship as Jorge Lorenzo crashed out when battling for the race lead with the Italian star. Thus, Rossi once again triumphed over his younger team-mate. The duo made the rest of the field look mediocre, as they had opened-up a 10-second lead over the others. After Lorezo’s crash, Honda-man Dani Pedrosa finished 2nd. Behind Pedrosa, two more Honda riders, Toni Elías and Andrea Dovizioso, dueled for the final podium slot, with San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Elías just outdoing Repsol Honda’s Dovizioso.
In the 250 cc racing class, MotoGP-bound Marco Simoncelli was in great form
as he took a third 2009 win in hot temperatures at Brno. He ran a flawless race and was clinical about his win from pole position. Meanwhile, things tightened up in the standings as Álvaro Bautista (Mapfre Aspar Team) and leader Hiroshi Aoyama (Scot Racing Team) finished third and fourth respectively. Mattia Pasini finished 2nd.
In the 125 cc category, Nico Terol (Jack & Jones Team) continued his excellent recent form to secure his first 2009 victory ahead of World Championship leader Julián Simón (Bancaja Aspar). Julian Simón crossed the line just 0.168s behind. Pole man Andrea Iannone (Ongetta Team I.S.P.A.) was not quite able to match the pace of the front two as he rode a lonely race in third place to complete the podium, eight seconds behind Terol.
The racing circus moves into the US for it’s next stop at Indianapolis. Rossi finally has some breathing space in the driver’s standings. With Casey Stoner ruled out for most of the rest of the season, it does seem like he has another World Championship in his grasp. Unless Lorenzo decides to hit back hard.
