EPL Gameweek3:Liverpool falls to the Villans

The 2nd week of action in the EPL saw Manchester United bouncing back from their upset at Turf Moor in emphatic style, with a 5-0 victory against Wigan.United’s struggle for goals was again seen in the first half, where Wigan had its fair share of chances to score too.But once the second half started,it was all United.

After Wayne Rooney scored of a Valencia cross to open the goal scoring spree in the 56th minute,Dimitar Berbatov added a second in the 58th minute to break Wigan’s hearts after having performed so well in the first half.Rooney scored his second in the 65th minute to put United 3-0 up.The rout was complete as Micheal Owen came off the bench to score his first goal for his new club while Nani scored from a free kick in injury time to give United a resounding 5-0 victory.Quite a way to bounce back!!!

Arsenal were again at their best against struggling Portsmouth at the Emirates as they completely dominated the match and won 4-1.Abou Diaby scored twice in the first half, while Gallas and 18 year old Ramsey added a fourth to seal Arsenal’s victory.Younes Kaoul had given Pompey some hope going into the second half with a leaping header but that was the only bright moment in the game for Pompey in an otherwise a sorry game for them.

Saturday also had Manchester City pitted against Wolves. With the bookies putting them second favorites this weekend to win their weekend fixture behind Arsenal,it was an opportunity to reiterate the faith.A 17th minute strike from Adebayor was enough to seal a 1-0 victory for City at the Eastlands stadium.HUll City also got their first win of the season when they won 1-0 over fellow strugglers Bolton.Kamle Ghilas scored in the 61st minute to put some pressure off Phil Brown,at least for now.

In another match,Sunderland won 2-1 against Blackburn as Kenwyne Jones scored twice.Saturday also saw the first draw of the 2009/10 season as Birmingham and Stoke City played out a goalless draw at Birmingham.

In Sunday’s matches,it was Chelsea against Fulham,Burnley against Everton and Tottenham against the Hammers.Tottenham continued its good start to the campaign by winning 2-1.They fell behind when Carlton Cole produced some brilliance to put the Hammers ahead. But the hero turned villain as Cole’s back pass to his defender later in the game only resulted in him passing the ball to Defoe, who made no mistake in slamming the ball past the West Ham Goalkeeper. That mistake took the initiative away from West Ham and Aaron Lennon scored the Spurs’ second goal,to clinch a rather lucky victory.

Chelsea’s game against Fulham at the Cottage saw some boring football and eventually the greater talent among the Chelsea ranks was enough for Chelsea to secure their third win in as many matches.Drogba scored towards the end of the first half from a pass from Anelka and Drogba returned the favour later in the second half,as he provided Anelka with a great pass, and the Frenchman made no mistake in scoring his first goal of the season.

Burnley was absolutely flying after their victory against Manchester United and everyone thought that the result was just a fluke. But Everton was their next victim as Everton was beaten 1-0,thus continuing their dreadful start to the new season.

Monday night football at Anfield resulted in a defeat for the home side against Aston Villa. With this result,Liverpool slips further away from the title challenge.A 1-3 loss at home against a side that they have beaten in the last five encounters meant that Rafa Benitez needs to think over his strategies or else with Manchester City and Tottenham doing well early in the season,i wouldn’t be surprised if Liverpool is the first casualty from the ‘top four’.Aston Villa thus ended Liverpool’s 31 match unbeaten streak at home.A Lucas own goal and Curtis Davies’ header just before the interval meant that Villa went into the break 2-0 up.Even though Liverpool pulled one back through Torres,Villa’s victory was never in question as Ashley Young converted a penalty soon after.

Next week we have the big match between Arsenal and Manchester United coming.Cant wait to see that.Hopefully,i will have lots to say next week.
