deangelis_lorenzo_hayden.jpg Fiat Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo got his third victory of 2009 at Indianapolis, at the end of yet another thrilling race. More crucially, his team-mate Valentino Rossi and Spanish rival Dani Pedrosa both crashed in the 28 lap Brickyard contest. Valentino Rossi thus, suffered his first DNF of a superb 2009 season. San Carlo Honda Gresini’s Alex de Angelis finished second and won his first premier class podium. Nicky Hayden also rode brilliantly after qualifying sixth, and completed the rostrum. This was a mature performance from Hayden, who did well for the team in Casey Stoner’s absence.

An exciting 125cc race concluded with a victory for Pol Espargaró. A five- hayden_podium.jpg way battle which lasted for the majority of the race went down to the very last lap and ultimately ended with Pol Espargaró (Derbi Racing Team) pipping Briton Bradley Smith (Bancaja Aspar) by just 0.120s. Simone Corsi (Fontana Racing) finished in third place, three tenths down on Smith, to claim his second podium of the season.

Marco Simoncelli clinched victory in the 250cc category, who rode in a manner befitting the World Champion that he is. He crossed the line two seconds ahead of current standings leader Hiroshi Aoyama (Scot Racing Team). Álvaro Bautista finished sixth, but lost ground in the championship hunt.

lorenzo_rossi_us.jpg In the MotoGP World Championship, Valetino Rossi’s lead has been halved from 50 to 25 points. However, Lorenzo himself feels that it’s still a very tough task to be able to beat his teammate. After all that’s happened between the two this season, he should know. But, you never can never be sure. It’s over to San Marino in a week’s time.
